Easy Start Valve Warning
Many pressure washer systems are outfitted with an “Easy Start” valve on the discharge head of the pump. A properly functioning valve serves to ease or reduce the internal pump pressure while cranking an engine to facilitate easier starting of the engine. The valve then closes to allow full pressure once the engine reaches full RPM.
The condition of the Easy Start valve is an important safety factor to consider when diagnosing or servicing pressure switch burner control systems, as the burner circuit can inadvertently remain on if the Easy Start valve fails to fully close after engine startup.
Tests have shown that an Easy Start valve partially blocked open can function just like a nozzle, thus causing the pressure switch to engage and allow the burner to fire even when the gun is off. Such a condition is very dangerous and if a defective or blocked Easy Start valve is discovered it should be replaced or removed immediately.
